SRE-WSC: Hurricane Ike: Severe Weather Action Advisory

We have a severe storm approaching (Hurricane Ike) which has the potential to disrupt your water supply. Our primary concern is disruption of the electrical power supply, which will result in a loss of water pressure. SRE-WSC recommends the following minimum actions by our customers.

  • Collect a sufficient quantity of water (i.e., 3 days) for personal consumption and flushing toilets.
  • Keep a list of WSC representatives that you can contact.
  • Stay alert to the requirement to “boil water.” Once a boil water alert is issued, water must be boiled until it is deemed safe for consumption. We are not at this state as this advisory is issued (11 Sep 2008, 9:38:29 PM).
  • Should we lose water pressure, it will be a minimum of 24 hours after pressure is restored to test and deem the supply safe for human consumption

The information which follows is meant to increase your awareness/knowledge of this potential issue.

Loss of electrical power is our water system’s primary threat to providing a safe and uninterrupted supply of water.

Interruption in power/brownout over a protracted period of time (15-30 minutes depending on system consumption) will result in a loss of system pressure and potential contamination.

Should an unexpecteed power interruption affecting our system occur, your first indication may be a loss of electricity in your home followed by a drop in water pressure. Loss of pressure may require the WSC to initiate its boil water emergency plan. See the boil water notification directions below.

In case of loss of electrical power, the directors will update residents through our emergency contact plan involving the neighborhood watch/block captains.

Normal means of contacting you may not be available: internet, phones, etc.

NOTE: The boil water notification (below) is not currently intended (as of 11 Sep 2008, 9:38:29 PM), but customers are advised that should this notification be required, the actions below are required to ensure proper health standards.

Boil-Water Notification
Skyline Ranch Estates Water Supply Corporation (SRE-WSC)

Due to conditions which have occurred recently in the water system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required that SRE-WSC notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify you.
